A kit of the American carrier-borne Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat fighter in 1:48 scale. The model is meant to be assembled and painted.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat was a carrier-borne fighter of the US Navy from the beginning of the Second World War. It was powered by the air-cooled Pratt and Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp radial engine. Its fuselage was short and rugged, with a high-set cockpit and main landing gear that retracted into the sides of the fuselage and was cranked in by hand by the pilots. Unlike the later F4F-4 version, the F4F-3 had fixed wings with no folding option and its armament consisted of four 12.7 mm machine guns. The Wildcats carried the main burden of the fighting in the Pacific at a time when the enemy had faster and more agile machines, and they made up for it with toughness and with pair tactics.
The contents are a kit to be glued and painted in 1:48 scale; the finished model has a span of about twenty-four centimeters. The range of parts and the marking options on offer are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Clean the parts of surplus material and traces of production and sand the mating surfaces. Finish and paint the cockpit before you close the fuselage up, because the framed canopy gives a good view inside. Wash and degrease the surface before painting, lay the paint on in thin coats and stick the masking down before spraying.
The set suits modelers interested in the early period of the war in the Pacific as well as those who build carrier aircraft. The paints, the thinner, the glue and the tools are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
