Decals 1:48 for four postwar and foreign Hurricanes, among them an Iranian two-seat trainer machine and a Portuguese aircraft from the 1950s.
Responsibility details are not available.
The career of the Hurricane did not end in 1945, and this sheet shows it with four machines of a kind you would not have met at a British airfield. The most interesting is the Iranian tropical Mk. IIc with the fuselage number 2-32 from the Doshan Teppeh base in 1947, because it was converted into a two-seat trainer, that is, with a second cockpit behind the pilot.
The tropical Mk. IIc with the serial number HL988 served the Turkish Air Force in the Middle East in 1942, and the original British insignia showed through under its finish. The Mk. I with the number HC456 was flown by the Finnish Captain Heikki Kalaja of the unit LeLv 30 from the Utti airfield in July 1941. The fourth is a Mk. IIc with the marking MP and the number 624 of a Portuguese squadron from the Sintra base, captured in the 1950s.
The content is a single sheet with a printed film in 1:48 proportion. The model has to be built and clear coated; the set supplies the insignia, numbers and accompanying lettering. Since three of the four aircraft used insignia outside the British system, the national markings make up a substantial part of the sheet.
The insignia of the individual countries differ in shape and in the number of colors, and some are made up of several elements that have to be aligned against one another before the film dries. Plenty of water under the print and a flat surface across which an element can be slid will help.
It is precisely with aircraft taken over secondhand that the finish tends to be most interesting. The Turkish machine had its original British insignia only lightly oversprayed, and the Portuguese aircraft were seeing out their service at a time when jets were already flying elsewhere. A model built from these details therefore looks more worn than a factory-new airframe.
