1:48 Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIc double-sided express mask for Italeri

Double-sided masks for the Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIc, 1:48

This product belongs to the painting of a model, not to its assembly. The templates follow the run of the frames of the cockpit canopy and the other clear parts of a model of the Hurricane in the Mk.IIc version. The qualifier double-sided means a version for the outer as well as the inner side of the glazing, thanks to which the framing is distinct from both views.

A British fighter with cannon armament

The Hawker Hurricane was the first monoplane with retractable landing gear in the armament of the Royal Air Force, and in 1940 it shot down more opponents than any other type. The Mk.IIc version brought a wing fitted with four 20 mm cannons, which made the machine an effective means against ground targets and shipping. It flew in Europe, in the Mediterranean and over Burma and remains a popular subject to this day.

Practical advice

• Assemble the canopy only once the interior is painted, otherwise the templates are harder to settle.
• Take the templates with tweezers by the edge, so that the central area stays undisturbed.
• Spray the frames first in the interior shade and only then in the outer finish.
• Apply the paint perpendicular to the surface, not from the side at a sharp angle.
• Take them off carefully, ideally with the blunt tip of a toothpick and with no sideways pull.

It will be appreciated by

• Builders of British wartime types with an eye for a clean surface.
• Modelers who work on several canopies at once.
• Those who finish a model with the canopy slid back.
