1:48 Hurricane Mk.IIC - a masking set for the landing gear bays for precise painting of the inner wing spaces on the cannon-armed version of this fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set for the landing gear bays of the Hawker Hurricane fighter in the Mk.IIC version. On this type the bays are wide and clearly visible on a finished model, so the difference between careful and careless painting shows at first glance.
The Mk.IIC carried four 20 mm cannons in the wing, which replaced the earlier battery of machine guns. Power came from a Merlin of the twenty series with a single-stage two-speed supercharger, so the machine kept its performance at higher altitudes as well. Cannon-armed Hurricanes proved themselves over Malta, in North Africa and on night sorties over the occupied mainland, where their slower speed and steady behavior were more of an advantage. The landing gear retracted inward into the center section of the wing, and its wide track made the machine a forgiving patient on field strips.
Wide bays tempt you into a quick coat, yet this is exactly where every irregularity shows. So lay down a base, let it harden properly and only then spray the target shade. After uncovering, run a fine sanding stick along the edge only if it really shows; most of the time it is not needed.
