About product

Heinkel He 111H-20 in 1:48 scale - New Ware masking set, BASIC level

The sheet contains pre-cut self-adhesive masks of kabuki paper, a thin Japanese tape that follows curves well and generally leaves no adhesive behind when removed. The set is intended for the glazing of a model of the twin-engined Heinkel He 111 in the H-20 subversion, in 1:48 scale, and belongs to the basic level of the range designated BASIC. The exact extent of the sheet cannot be read from the name; it is given in the manufacturer's data on the packaging. It is not a kit and not a decal sheet.

The real subject

The He 111 was a German twin-engined bomber that developed during the 1930s from a transport aircraft and, in the H series versions, received Junkers Jumo powerplants. A characteristic feature of the later aircraft is the fully glazed asymmetric nose with no separate windscreen, where the pilot looks straight through the curved surface. The H-20 subversion was among the final versions of the series and was built in several subvariants differing in equipment and purpose, including transport and night roles.

How to work with the masks

The glazed nose of the He 111 is the most demanding surface of the whole model: the panes do not follow a regular grid and the frames run in several directions at once. Lay the mask on one piece at a time, dry, and after sticking each one down run a toothpick along every edge. It makes sense to spray the inside of the nose in the interior shade before the exterior camouflage, otherwise the frame will show bare plastic from the inside. Apply the camouflage in thin coats and remove the masks while the paint is still fresh.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of twin-engined bombers in 1:48 scale.
  • Modelers who want to avoid masking a fully glazed nose by cutting tape by hand.
  • Those who spray with an airbrush and need crisp edges on the frames.
  • Modelers whose patience runs out on larger glazed areas.

The package contains masks only. The kit, paints, glue and decals are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It is a masking set for a He 111H-20 model in 1:48 scale, which you buy separately. Paints, glue and decals are not included.

The nose of the He 111 is fully glazed and the frames on it run in several directions. Cutting tape by hand for such an area takes hours and the result tends to be uneven.

It is the lowest of the several levels in which the manufacturer offers masks for this type. Check the particular extent of the sheet in the manufacturer's data on the packaging.

Yes, rinse it in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and let it dry in the air. On a greasy surface the mask will not seat and paint will run under it.
