A set of templates for spraying the German crosses onto a model of the Heinkel He 111 in the H-20 version, 1:48 scale, from MH models. The package contains masking material for painting the markings; the model, paints and decals are not part of it. The exact make-up of the set is stated on the box. The manufacturer cut them for the ICM kit.
The He 111H-20 is a late version of the extensively produced H series. On a large twin-engine airframe in 1:48 scale the national insignia are correspondingly large, and it is precisely with large decals that silvering and wrinkling over riveting appear most often. Spraying through a mask gets around this problem, because the paint follows the surface including the panel joints and has no thickness of its own.
A mask behaves only as well as the surface under it. Let the camouflage cure thoroughly, with acrylics preferably a whole day and with enamels longer; on fresh paint the mask sinks in and pulls it off when removed. Degrease the surface before applying it and rid it of sanding dust. The temperature in the workshop also plays a part: in the cold the adhesive on the mask does not grip and the edge lifts, whereas in great heat it holds all too well. Before you lay the first template down, test the adhesion in a less visible place, such as the underside of the fuselage, or on an offcut of plastic from a sprue. You will find out whether the tack has to be reduced by sticking and unsticking it on the back of your hand.
This is not a kit. The set contains painting masks only; the model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
