This resin set from the Quickboost brand of the Czech maker Aires brings faithfully cast exhaust stacks for a model of the German twin-engine Heinkel He 111 bomber in the H-4 and H-6 versions in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane model, but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers that replaces the solid plastic exhausts with a casting with the outlets suggested or drilled. The engine nacelles then look more realistic and are easier to weather with exhaust staining.

The real subject

The Heinkel He 111 was a German twin-engine medium bomber deployed from the beginning of the Second World War, recognizable by its glazed nose. The H-4 and H-6 versions were powered by inverted V12 Junkers Jumo engines and were among the most widespread variants, used both for bombing and as carriers of torpedoes and other weapons.

Tips for working with resin

First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water so that the mold release residue is removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the cut surfaces with respiratory protection. Glue the parts with cyanoacrylate glue, not with cement for plastic. Try the fit dry before painting, as resin may need a little cleaning up.
