Omask masking plugs for the wheel bays of an I-16 fighter model in 1:48 scale are cut for the Clear Prop Models kit.

Wheel bays are among the places hardest to protect while a model is being painted. Cotton wool falls out of them, tape cannot be pressed down properly in a deep opening and the result tends to be a mist of color inside. Shaped Omask plugs close the opening in one go. This variant is cut for the Clear Prop Models kit; other variants of the same item aim at the plastic of further manufacturers.
The I-16 from the design bureau of Nikolai Polikarpov was an unusually modern machine for its day. The short fuselage with a radial engine at the front and the low-set wing gave it a silhouette that cannot be mistaken. Besides a landing gear retracted by hand it also carried an enclosed cockpit, which was however abandoned on the later versions. The type went through the Spanish Civil War and the fighting over Khalkhin Gol, and as late as 1941 it made up a considerable part of the Soviet fighter units.
Fit them onto a dry, deburred opening so that they seat without strain. When a bay is painted separately, do that first and only then close it. Leave the plugs in place throughout the painting including the patina, so that not even a wash runs into the bays. Take them out with a gentle pull, not with a levering movement, so that the edge of the opening is not damaged.
