Omask masking plugs for the wheel bays of an I-16 fighter model in 1:48 scale are cut for the ICM kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This small aid deals with a problem known to everyone who has sprayed an aircraft with a retractable landing gear: the wheel bays fill with paint while the underside is being sprayed and the mist gets inside where it should not. The plugs close the bays for the time of painting. The set is cut for the ICM kit, because the same plugs for other manufacturers have a different shape and are separate items.
The Polikarpov I-16 was a Soviet monoplane of the 1930s and one of the first production fighters with a cantilever wing and a retractable landing gear at the same time. It had an exceptionally short barrel-shaped fuselage, which gave it agility but also nervous behavior about the longitudinal axis. It was used in the Spanish Civil War, in the fighting in the Far East and in the first months of the war on the Eastern Front. Its landing gear was retracted by hand and its bays are clearly visible on a model.
Insert the plugs into the bays before the primer coat and leave them in place throughout the painting, including the varnish under the decals. Take them out only right at the end, before the landing gear legs are fitted. If you paint the bays in a different shade, spray them first and only then cover them.
