The conversion set from the Black Dog brand turns the Humvee cross-country vehicle into the uparmored version used by the Israeli army. The name promises more than fifty resin parts supplemented by photo-etched components. The basic kit of the vehicle from Tamiya in 1:48 scale is not in the package.
The Humvee was created as a universal cross-country vehicle without armor, but service in built-up areas and against planted charges forced the opposite. The Israeli vehicles were given armor plates on the doors and sides, reinforced glazing and further elements to protect the crew. The result looks considerably more angular and robust than the original light body of the 1980s.
The conversion assumes that you will cut into the original model: parts of the body have to be cut away and the surfaces leveled so that the new parts seat properly. Bend the photo-etched components over a straight edge, not between your fingers, otherwise irregular radii will result. Metal needs an adhesion-promoting primer before painting. Work in stages and keep checking whether the parts fit as they should.
The set is among the more demanding items for advanced builders; it holds neither paints nor the original vehicle.
