A set of cast wheels with weighted tires for 1:48 models of the Ilyushin Il-2 ground-attack aircraft, in the late configuration. The tires are cast with a realistically bulged lower section, so the model settles onto its landing gear like a machine standing under its own weight. With the Il-2 that counts double: it was a heavy, armored aircraft that operated from field strips, so a bulged tire and a tread clogged with dirt belong to its appearance. This is an accessory for a model, not an aircraft model.
The Ilyushin Il-2 is a Soviet ground-attack aircraft for attacking ground targets, whose forward section was formed by an armored box protecting the crew, the powerplant, the radiators and the fuel tank. Over thirty-six thousand were built during the war, and together with the later Il-10 it is the most numerously built military design in the history of aviation. In the West the reporting name Bark is used for it, while at home it was called the Shturmovik. Operation from field strips and its great weight make the landing gear one of its prominent features.
