Eduard LööK 1:48 Ilyushin Il-2 Shturmovik is a set with a resin instrument panel that comes finished and painted from the factory. It serves to replace the plastic panel in the cockpit of a model; it is not a kit.

LööK is Eduard's range of finished instrument panels cast in resin and painted at the factory. The modeler therefore has neither to paint nor to assemble them; the panel is simply dropped in place of the plastic part from the kit. The dials have legible scales and are usually given a gloss layer imitating the glass covers, a detail that is very hard to do by hand in 1:48 scale. The set is an accessory for an Il-2 Shturmovik model, not the model itself.
The Il-2 Shturmovik is a Soviet single-engine ground attack aircraft of the Second World War period. Its design peculiarity is an armored tub that forms the load-bearing part of the front half of the fuselage itself and encloses the engine, the radiators and the pilot's area. The cockpit is therefore fairly cramped and the instrument panel takes up a prominent area in it. On a model with the canopy open it is the first place the eye goes.
The main work lies in preparing the location, not in painting. The plastic panel from the kit usually has to be cut away or sanded off so that the resin part seats at the correct depth; the blind approach of simply gluing the panel over the plastic moves the whole cockpit forward and the canopy then will not close. Work in small steps and try it dry. Wash the resin in warm water with detergent before gluing to remove the mold release agent. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; apply it with a pin to the edges, never to the printed surface. Do not overspray the painted surface with an opaque color or a heavy varnish, as the printed markings would disappear. If you need to even out the gloss of the surroundings, mask the panel. Any reflections on the glass covers can be brought out with a drop of gloss varnish, and the shadows under the controls with a dark wash applied very sparingly.
This is an accessory set, not a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package. Check before buying that the set matches your kit.
