Saab JAS-39A Gripen exhaust nozzle, closed position 1:48 is a resin detail set from the Aires brand for refining the tail of the Swedish fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set brings a faithfully cast resin engine exhaust nozzle for the Swedish Saab JAS-39A Gripen fighter in 1:48 scale, in the closed position, that is, with the petals drawn in as the nozzle looks without afterburner, for example on the ground. It is not an aircraft model but a detail accessory that replaces the plastic nozzle from the kit.
The Gripen is a single-engine multirole fighter; the JAS-39A version was the first production standard. It is powered by a turbofan derived from the American F404 family and built under license in Sweden. The variable nozzle changes its area with the regime: the closed position corresponds to running without afterburner.
First wash the resin castings in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap to deal with mold release residue. Cut off the casting blocks carefully with a saw or snap them off and sand the surfaces with respiratory protection. Bond the parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Bring out the drawn-in petals with a fine dry brush and metallic shades; it helps to darken the edges slightly. Before gluing it in, check that it lines up with the fuselage and sand the mating surface if needed.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
