The 20 liter jerrycan, SS variant, in 1:48 scale

This is an add-on set in 1:48 scale with a model of the 20 liter standard-pattern jerrycan in the variant designated SS. It is not a vehicle kit but a small part for fenders, brackets and a diorama scene.

The real subject

You can tell the 20 liter standard-pattern jerrycan by its three handles side by side, the cross pressed into the sides and the lever closure that needs no screwing. The shape changed only in details over the course of production, whereas the markings differed according to who used the container and what for. Modeling sets therefore come in several variants that can be combined on a vehicle.

Usage tips

• Jerrycans look best in a group. Add them to the brackets on the fenders or stack them in the bed, in different positions if you like.
• Degrease small parts and spray them with a primer, or the coat will not hold and will rub off while handling.
• Pick out the pressings and edges with a dark wash and a dry brush. The chipping is mainly on the edges and around the handles.
• Choose the markings according to the particular subject you are building. The set is a building part, not a source for identifying a particular unit.
