Kawasaki Ki-61-Id Hien landing gear bay masks 1:48 - they protect an already finished, weathered bay interior from overspray.
Responsibility details are not available.
Die-cut self-adhesive masks for the landing gear bay openings of the later form of the Ki-61-I in 1:48 scale. The set suits above all anyone who puts work into the inside of a bay and does not want to lose it while painting the airframe.
On a model a bay is usually finished first: the primer is sprayed, the interior shade is laid on, the plumbing and tanks are brought out, a dark wash goes into the corners and a dry brush over the edges. By that point it is hours of work on an area the size of a fingernail. Then the model is turned over and the airframe starts being sprayed, and a single careless pass of the airbrush levels it all into one color. A die-cut mask is a simple safeguard here: it adheres all the way around the opening, holds through several coats and when it is lifted it does not pull on anything inside. We recommend laying the mask on only once the wash has cured completely, not on a fresh one, otherwise the adhesive can bond with a still-soft surface.
The Ki-61-Id was a later production form of the Ki-61-I with a revised nose and changed armament. The basic features of the aircraft remained, that is a liquid-cooled inverted V12 engine and a slender fuselage, on account of which the Allies at first mistook the Hien for an aircraft of European design.
