Photo-etched metal parts for a model of the Japanese fighter Ki-44 in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Nakajima Ki-44 was a Japanese single-seat fighter of the Second World War. Unlike most Japanese machines of its time it was built not for agility but for fast climb and high speed, as it was meant to intercept bombers. Pilots used to turning fights disliked it at first, but it proved itself in defense against air raids. The Allies used the code name Tojo for this type.
Photo-etched metal parts for a Ki-44 model in 1:48 scale. Metal allows a thickness that injection-molded plastic cannot reach and carries fine structure that a mold cannot hold. The extent of the set and the position of the individual parts are given in the manufacturer instructions.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface and pick them up with tweezers by the face, not by the edge. Sand the remains of the tab with a fine file. Bend them in one movement in a bending tool or between two blades. They are bonded with super glue applied in drops on the tip of a pin, as cement for plastic has no effect on metal. Degrease the surfaces before painting and spray them with a primer, otherwise the coat rubs off the smooth metal.
For modelers who build the Ki-44 in 1:48 scale and want to replace coarser plastic elements with finer metal ones. Whether the parts fit a particular kit should be checked in the instructions of the set before you start modifying the plastic. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
