A masking set in 1:48 scale for building a model of the Japanese twin-engine heavy fighter Kawasaki Ki-45 Toryu. The elements are pre-cut to shape.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Kawasaki Ki-45 Toryu was a twin-engine, two-seat heavy fighter of the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force of the Second World War. The Allies gave it the code name Nick. Besides daytime duties it also came into its own in the night defense of the Japanese islands, where a crew of two was an advantage.
The elements are cut to the shapes of the areas on the model that are to stay free of paint while spraying. The modeler simply peels them off the backing, transfers them to the model and presses them down, so the tedious cutting of tape along the frames falls away. Which particular areas the set covers is stated in the manufacturer's instructions.
The masks go onto the model before painting, onto a dry and degreased surface. Press the edge down with a toothpick or a blunt tip all the way round, because that is exactly where paint creeps under. Spray in thinner coats and take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, while the coat has not yet gone brittle. On a twin-engine aircraft it pays to mask the cabin glazing and the areas of the engine nacelles in one go.
The set is for builders who paint with an airbrush and want sharp edges without hand masking. The shapes are derived from a particular kit, which the manufacturer states, so lay the element on dry first and only then stick it down.
The package contains masking elements. The model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
