Hauler 1:48 King Tiger FENDERS is a photo-etched set of fenders for the model of the Tiger II heavy tank in 1:48 scale. It is an accessory for a model, not a kit in its own right.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from the Czech maker Hauler replaces the plastic fenders of the model of the Tiger II heavy tank in 1:48 scale with parts made of photo-etched sheet. It is not a model or a kit but an aftermarket accessory cut for a specific Tamiya kit. This is a more extensive replacement of large areas, not a single small part.
On the real machine the fenders are made of thin sheet and in service they routinely bent, tore and went partly missing. Injection-molded plastic cannot reproduce that, because it is an order of magnitude thicker than the scale thickness of the sheet, and from the rear and the side it shows. A metal part makes it possible to have a fender bent, lifted or partly missing, and a model gains credibility at once. It is on the fenders that the difference between plastic and photo-etch shows up most markedly of anywhere on a model.
Cut the original plastic fenders off and level the area on the hull. Degrease the photo-etched parts and bend them over a straight edge, ideally in a bender, so that the bend is not rounded. Suggest deformations and damage carefully with a round tool on a soft surface; the metal shapes willingly and it is easy to overdo. It is bonded with super glue; on longer seams a thin version helps, as it runs in by capillary action. Apply a primer before painting. The fenders are the place where mud and dust effects, pigments and paint worn off the edges count for most.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model itself, glue, paints and tools are not included in the package.
