A plastic kit of the US Navy A-12 Avenger II in 1:48 scale from the manufacturer Modelcollect. The never completed stealth attack aircraft of the US Navy in the shape of a flying wing. A new mold.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from the manufacturer Modelcollect captures the projected stealth attack aircraft A-12 Avenger II, developed for the US Navy. It is a new mold cast in gray plastic with one clear cockpit canopy and a separate sprue of armament. The outer parts of the wings are separate and can be assembled either folded or spread, as operation from the deck of an aircraft carrier required. A decal sheet with US Navy markings is included. The model has a striking triangular shape, thanks to which it is impressive even as a kit.
The A-12 Avenger II was a carrier-based stealth attack aircraft developed as a replacement for the A-6 Intruder in the role of an all-weather deep strike machine. The design took the form of a flying wing shaped as an isosceles triangle, which earned it the nickname flying tortilla (Flying Dorito). Because of rising costs and delays the program was canceled in 1991 before the aircraft flew — so not a single example ever reached service. The model therefore represents an ambitious but unrealized project of the Cold War.
The large flat panels of the wing call for careful filling and sanding of the seams — it is precisely flat surfaces that give away every unevenness. Decide in advance whether you will build the wings folded or spread. Apply a primer, paint with an airbrush and unify the smooth surfaces. Bring the panel lines out with a fine wash. Mask the canopy and fit it after varnishing; fit the armament last.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
