Chains were fitted to wheels where even a cross-country vehicle was no longer enough: on an iced road, into a muddy rut and into deep snow. The links bit into the surface and gave the vehicle back the grip that a smooth tire had lost. Along with that, the tire pressure was often lowered as well, so that the wheel bedded down over a larger area. Both are clearly visible on a model: under the chain a bulged sidewall shows and the bottom of the wheel is flattened.
The set brings wheels for the Willys vehicle with snow chains in 1:48 scale, in an underinflated form. They replace the wheels from a kit and set the season of a scene straight away, without your having to reach for further accessories.
Cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder off carefully, so that neither the links of the chain nor the flattening of the bottom disappear. Wash and degrease the parts before painting and choose the glue according to the material; super glue will serve universally. Turn the flattened area toward the ground and let the model dry on a level board. You will bring a chain to life by passing a dry brush with a metallic shade over the links once the dark base has dried: the top edges light up like rubbed metal, while the rubber beneath them stays flat.
