An injection-molded plastic kit of the L-13B Bacostroj in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer MH models. The subject is a private powered modification of the two-seat glider L-13 Blanik, that is, a machine that never appeared in ordinary production and remained at a single example. For collectors of Czechoslovak aviation equipment it is a theme that has practically no counterpart in plastic.
The L-13 Blanik glider from Kunovice belongs among the most widespread training gliders in the world - an all-metal structure, two seats one behind the other and a long career in flying clubs and in military training alike. The modification designated Bacostroj arose by a private route in such a way that an engine was installed in the place of the front seat, and the aircraft thereby changed into a single-seat powered glider. It flew for the first time in 1979 and flew in Czechoslovakia in the following decade. It remained at a single piece, so it is a typical demonstration of domestic design work of that time.
Gliders have a large glazed area and thin frames - it pays to mask the cabin with tape cut with a knife along the engraving, or to use ready-made masks. Glue the high aspect ratio wing on a flat surface, so that the dihedral sits the same on both sides. The surface of civilian machines tends to be smooth and glossy, so thorough sanding and primer pay off before painting; finish the paintwork with a gloss clear coat, on which the registration decals will then seat without silvering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
