A set of precisely die-cut self-adhesive painting masks from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for a model of the Soviet Lavochkin La-5 FN fighter in 1:48 scale. It is neither a kit nor a model: it is an accessory that makes it easier to paint the canopy glazing and other small areas cleanly. The masks are stuck straight onto the parts, so the framing of the glazing comes out with crisp straight edges without the laborious cutting of masking tape. Sets of this kind usually also include circular masks for the wheel rims, which make it easier to separate the tire from the rim.
The Lavochkin La-5 was a Soviet fighter of the Second World War with a radial engine and a largely wooden structure. The La-5 FN version received a supercharged engine with direct fuel injection, which raised both power and rate of climb markedly. It ranked among the best Soviet fighters of its day and proved itself above all in combat at low and medium altitudes. Its glazed canopy is a typical place to put masks to work.
Lift the mask carefully off the backing with tweezers or the tip of a knife and lay it on a dry, degreased surface. Press the edges down thoroughly so that paint cannot creep under them. Apply the paint in thin coats, ideally with an airbrush, and pull the mask off before the coat has hardened completely. On strongly curved shapes it helps to seal the edge with masking fluid.
This is a set of painting masks, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
