An injection-molded plastic kit of the fifth-generation carrier fighter Lockheed Martin F-35C Lightning II in 1:48 scale from Tamiya. The kit offers interchangeable parts for spread and folded wingtips, an extended and a retracted refueling probe, an open and a closed canopy and weapons bay doors. The model can be built in stealth configuration, in air-to-air configuration or in the so-called beast mode with a full weapons load. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The F-35C Lightning II is the carrier variant of the fifth-generation fighter, intended for operation from aircraft carriers with a catapult and arresting gear. Compared with the F-35A version it has larger wings with folding tips, larger control surfaces for better handling at low speed, strengthened landing gear with a twin-wheel nose unit and a stronger tailhook. It is used above all by the US Navy.
Tamiya kits fit excellently, but even so pay attention to the cleanliness of the joints so that the smooth stealth surface comes out. Decide in advance on the weapons configuration and on the position of the wings and the canopy. Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic and cover the glazing with masks. For the matte gray US Navy schemes an airbrush and gentle highlighting of the panel lines work well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
