The three-dimensionally printed engine unit 1:48 Lockheed P-38F/P-38G Lightning right engine (3D-Printed) from Eduard replaces the right power nacelle of the twin-boom fighter in detail.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item is not a kit of the aircraft but an extensive replacement for one of the two engine nacelles. The set is produced by direct three-dimensional printing, so it carries crisp edges, thin walls and parts with no mold parting line. According to the manufacturer, decals and photo-etched additions are also included in the package to help finish the very finest places on the assembly.
The F and G versions belonged to the early series of the twin-engine fighter with its pair of tail booms. They were powered by liquid-cooled Allison V12 engines in a supercharged form, which let the machine work even at great altitudes. It is precisely the assembly of turbocharger, radiators and ducting that makes the nacelle the most complex mechanical part of the aircraft – and exactly the part that on most kits can only be seen from outside.
Free the printed parts of their supports and sand the areas where they were; protect your airways while sanding. Make the joints with cyanoacrylate glue, because print resin does not react to solvent cement. Lay a dark base under the engine block and go over the edges with a dry brush, so that the ribbing and the bolts stand out. Pick out the ducting in metallic shades and the exhaust manifolds with heat staining and rust. If you open the covers, fit them at the very end so that access inside is kept.
No paints or tools are enclosed with the set; reckon on your own workshop equipment.
