1:48 Lockheed P-38J Lightning left engine PRINT is a detail set of the left engine unit from the PRINT range of the Czech manufacturer Eduard. It is an accessory for a model, not a kit on its own.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item is not a kit of the aircraft but a detail set for a model of the Lockheed P-38J Lightning in 1:48 scale. It deals with the left engine unit, that is with one particular side, which on the twin-engine Lightning is a substantial distinction to keep in mind when buying. Eduard uses the PRINT designation for parts made by 3D printing, a technology that allows shapes and fineness which neither casting nor injection molding can give.
The P-38 Lightning is among the most striking American aircraft of the Second World War. Two tail booms, a central nacelle with the pilot and concentrated armament in the nose made it a machine that behaved differently from an ordinary single-engine fighter. The power came from liquid-cooled Allison twelve-cylinder engines completed with turbochargers placed in the booms, thanks to which the aircraft held its performance even at great heights. The propellers turned against each other, so the left and the right powerplant are not interchangeable. The P-38J version brought reworked cooling and was among the most widespread.
An exposed engine makes sense only when it can be seen, so plan out in advance which part of the cowling you will open and how you will prop it. Paint the assembly in parts before setting it into the boom and draw the depth of the detail out with a dark wash and a dry brush. Resin parts are glued with super glue, and before painting it is a good idea to wash them and lay a primer underneath.
