Responsibility details are not available.
An AML conversion set for reworking a Lockheed PV-1 Ventura into the night fighter form. It is meant for a base Ventura model in 1:48 scale, which it extends with the features characteristic of this little known role; the aircraft itself has to be bought separately.
The PV-1 Ventura was created as a naval patrol and bombing aircraft, but among its less known roles was service with the first night fighter squadron of the US Marine Corps. Modified machines with radar went out over the Solomon Islands in 1943 and claimed the first night successes of this kind in the Pacific. The substantial twin-engined aircraft offered room for equipment and an endurance that single-seat fighters could not provide, and it let the crews work as a team.
On a twin-engined model, watch that the engine nacelles are seated in line with each other; a small inaccuracy is very visible on a finished machine. Make the cuts into the airframe in stages and keep comparing them against the documentation for the machine you have chosen. Mask the glazed nose from the inside as well as the outside; on such a large area every overspray shows. Blacken the insides of the cowlings around the big radial engines so that no light shows through inside the nacelles. The night form suits a uniform dark finish brought to life with technical lettering and discreet emphasis on the panel lines.
