A set of photo-etched fenders from the Czech maker Hauler for the model of the late Sherman with HVSS suspension in 1:48 scale. The metal has a thickness matching the real sheet, which a plastic part cannot reach. The set is cut for the Hobby Boss kit; neither the kit nor other accessories are included in the package.
Late Shermans with HVSS suspension have markedly shaped and segmented fenders above the wider tracks. In injection-molded plastic that whole edge is necessarily thick, and seen from the front or the rear it is the most distracting part of the model. A metal replacement has a thickness matching real sheet and the edge stays sharp even after primer and paint have been applied.
The fenders are fitted to a finished hull, so mount them after the running gear is complete and before the tools and small equipment go on. Cut the plastic originals off and level the remains flat with a file, or the new part will not sit straight. Always offer the metal part up dry first, and only then glue it with super glue in drops from one end. Run the bends according to the etched grooves, which set the side of the bend. Degrease and apply a thin primer before painting. If you want to show a fender bowed or partly knocked off, shape it before gluing; on a finished model you can no longer reach it.
The set is an accessory for a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
