A set of die-cut painting masks for the Italian Macchi C.202 Folgore fighter in 1:48 scale. It covers the outer side of the cockpit glazing and one set of national insignia.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Macchi C.202 came out of a very simple idea: take the proven airframe of the C.200 and swap the radial engine for the inverted V12 Daimler-Benz DB 601, built in Italy under license as the Alfa Romeo RA.1000 RC.41. The nose grew longer, the frontal drag dropped and the Regia Aeronautica got for the first time a machine that could deal with the British fighter defense over Malta and in North Africa alike. The armament remained the weak point, because a pair of heavy machine guns above the engine was not enough against armored targets.
The glazing of this fighter is formed by a long row of narrow panels separated by thin frames. On the real aircraft those were painted in the fuselage color, so on a model they have to meet the surrounding surface without a visible step. A pre-cut shape defines the edge exactly and the paint does not creep under the edge where clear plastic is meant to stay.
It is worth degreasing the glazing before the masks go on and laying the mask down from the center toward the edge so that no bubble is left underneath. The paint is applied in thin coats and the shape is lifted before the finish has fully hardened.
