Self-adhesive masking templates for the two-seat Super Hornet in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer New Ware. It is not a kit or a part that stays on the model: the templates are stuck on, sprayed over and taken off again. The cut is made for one specific kit, the Hasegawa PT38, so the shape of the templates matches the shape of its parts and there is nothing to trim.
New Ware offers its masks at the BASIC, ADVANCED and EXPERT levels. They do not distinguish quality but the scope of the set: BASIC is the basic variant, ADVANCED extends it and EXPERT is the most comprehensive of the levels offered. If you want to cover as many areas as possible with masks at once and buy nothing further, reach for this level.
On a modern combat aircraft the canopy frames are thin lines with a lot of curvature. An area sprayed under a sharply cut template looks different from a hand-painted frame and has none of the glossy film that gives a decal away as a sticker. The paint also sits on the plastic and the clear part in the same way, so the model looks of a piece.
Degrease the surfaces before applying and let them dry out completely. Press the template down with a toothpick, above all at the edges, so that no paint runs under the border. Spray in thin coats; one heavy coat is more likely to bleed than three fine ones. Remove the mask while the paint is freshly dried, with tweezers and a sideways pull rather than straight up. Store the rest of the sheet flat, away from heat and direct sun, so that the adhesive does not perish.
The package holds only the masking templates. The kit, paints and glue are not part of it.
