The set contains masks cut to the outline of the clear parts of the Mitsubishi A5M2 model in 1:32 scale. It is an accessory for painting, not a model. The shapes are cut for the particular Special Hobby kit, so they sit on the engraving and nothing has to be trimmed with a knife. The double-sided designation means that the set allows for masking from the outside and from the inside. Watch the choice of version: the A5M2 and the A5M4 are different variants of the same type and the masking sets are not interchangeable between them, so pick the one that matches your kit.
The real subject
The Mitsubishi A5M, given the Allied designation Claude, was the first monoplane carrier fighter of the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service. It was powered by a radial engine, its landing gear was fixed with wheel fairings, and the design stood out for its clean aerodynamics and its agility. The A5M2 version is among the earlier production variants and differs from the later A5M4 in the engine and in design details.
Wash and degrease the clear part, otherwise the mask will not hold. Lift the masks off the sheet with a point or tweezers and seat them so that the edge lines up with the frame; work the pressure from the center toward the edges. Press the edges down once more with a toothpick. Spray in thin coats and preferably several times over; a heavy application peels when the mask is lifted. The usual order is the interior color, then the primer and the covering shade on the outside. Lift the mask once the paint has dried, while it is not yet fully cured, and remove any glue residue with a mild product that will not attack clear plastic.
It is a masking accessory for a build, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
