A warm acrylic palette from the Fantasy Color Series line for fire dragons, glowing cracks and transitions into red-hot color.
Responsibility details are not available.
A fire dragon stands and falls with the transition. It is a procedure in which a dark color at the root of a body gradually passes through red and orange to an almost white core. This themed palette contains the necessary steps side by side, so there is no need to mix, and it suits cracks in lava, a forge and magical weapons equally well.
The most natural transition arises when two neighboring tones meet while both are still wet. Apply the darker tone, the lighter one right next to it, and run the tip of a clean damp brush over the place where they touch. Work quickly, as acrylic becomes tacky on a figure within tens of seconds. A wet palette and a drop of retarder will extend the time enough for the transition to be tuned.
When a dragon has a red-hot maw, it should carry over into its surroundings. Thin the lightest tone heavily and go over the surfaces turned toward the source with it lightly, that is the underside of the jaw, the inner side of the claws and the nearest piece of terrain. The intensity has to fall off quickly with distance, or the model looks as though it had been dusted with colored powder.
On large areas a smooth transition can be sprayed, which is faster and smoother than blending by hand. Thin the paint heavily, lead the nozzle along the body and overlap the individual steps so that no edge is left between them. On smaller figures, though, handwork is more precise, because a sprayed transition barely fits onto an area the size of a fingernail.
