The 1:48 M.B. Mk 16A ejection seat accessory from the Aires brand offers a cast rendition of the modern Martin-Baker ejection seat for an aircraft model build.
Responsibility details are not available.
In an open cockpit the seat is the most conspicuous element and the viewer looks at it before anything else. This item offers a resin casting that replaces the simplified part from a kit. It carries the designation of the Mk 16A series and comes from the firm Aires, whose main line of work is cast accessories for aircraft models.
The British brand Martin-Baker has been devoted to escape systems since the 1940s and its products became a world standard. The Mk 16 series represents a modern generation in which the designers concentrated on lowering the weight and on making the system work across a wide range of speeds and at altitudes close to the ground. The seat is an assembly of many subassemblies – the supporting structure, the harness, the container with survival equipment and the firing mechanism. It is precisely the number of small parts and the way they interlock that makes this element a rewarding subject for cast accessories, which can capture the complexity of the surface far better than an injection mold.
Finish the seat completely on its own and set it into the model only at the very end, so that it is not damaged. Apply the primer very thinly. The padding tends to be a different color from the frame, and that is the main source of variety. The harness comes out well when you set it apart in tone and add the hardware. Finally go over the edges with a dry brush, so that the relief stands out.
The offer covers this part alone and assumes you already own the model.
