An accessory set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard: a three-dimensionally printed ejection seat in the early guise for a model of the McDonnell F-4B Phantom carrier-borne fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit — the set replaces the seat from the base model with a casting that has sharp edges, drawn-out structure and details that injection-molded plastic cannot manage.
The F-4 Phantom II was a two-seat, twin-engine carrier-borne fighter, operated in large numbers and in many versions. The F-4B variant served with the Navy and differs from later versions in a number of cabin details. Ejection seats went through changes during service, so early and later examples can be told apart by the shaping of the back, the placing of the firing controls and the arrangement of the belts. The word early in the name points to precisely the earlier guise.
Wash the printed part in lukewarm water with detergent and let it dry thoroughly. Cut the supports off with a saw or cutters and sand the marks down wet, with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; polystyrene cement will not join resin. Apply a base coat before painting. The seat is usually painted in two or three shades, a light wash brings out the engraving and a dry brush pulls out the edges. Finish the cabin before you put the canopy on.
The set is an accessory, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
