An accessory from the Czech maker Brengun intended for a model of the Me P1103 rocket fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit: the package holds self-adhesive masking templates cut exactly to the shape of the cockpit glazing, which are stuck to the clear part before spraying.
The frames of a cockpit are sprayed in the color of the airframe and are the most exposed lines on the whole model: every waver or run shows at once. Cutting strips from masking film by hand is laborious, and on curved canopies precision is hard to keep. Pre-cut masks get around the problem: they are drawn to the shape of the particular clear part, so it is enough to lift them off the backing film and settle them in place.
First wash and degrease the clear part, then carry the masks over with tweezers or the tip of a toothpick and press them down with a soft stick, so that no gap is left anywhere around the edge. Spray first a thin coat in the interior color, then the exterior color: the gap under the mask is thus filled with paint of the same shade as is to be seen inside. Spray dry and in several weak coats, as a heavy wet coat will run under the edge. Lift the masks off shortly after drying, while the paint is still brittle; a mask baked on after days of drying can be lifted with the tip of a scalpel, but the edge then tends to be ragged.
The accessory does not hold a kit, a clear part or paints. The masks are supplied on a backing film, ready to be lifted off.
