A detailed resin set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard in 1:48 scale for the plastic model of the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-10 fighter. It holds the powerplant, the fuselage armament and the engine cowling panels, so a model can be built with the front section open and the engine bay visible, that is a view a closed plastic fuselage will not offer. Photo-etched parts and decals come with it. The aircraft model is not included in the package.
The Bf 109G-10 was one of the late production versions of the German single-engine Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter. It was powered by an inverted V12 Daimler-Benz engine of the DB 605 series in a late form, which called for changes to the shaping of the engine cowling and the upper fuselage. The version was built in several plants and the individual batches differ slightly in the shape of the cowlings, the exhausts and the bulges, so before building it is worth checking the appearance of the particular machine you want to make.
Cut the resin parts off the casting blocks with a saw or a cutter, and never break them off. Sand the cuts, ideally wet and with respiratory protection, because resin dust must not be breathed in. Wash the parts in warm soapy water so that the mold release agent is removed, otherwise neither paint nor glue will hold. Resin is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, as plastic cement has no effect on it. Paint and weather the engine bay before you close it up: metallic shades, a wash into the recesses and faint traces of oil make the greatest difference. Before fitting the cowling panels, check by a dry run that they seat exactly on the fuselage.
