An accessory set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard that replaces the engine area of the model of the Bf 109G-10 in the U4 form in 1:48 scale with accurate castings. It is not a kit and you will not find a model of the aircraft in the package. The set is meant for builders who want to present their model with the engine cowlings open, that is with the engine, the engine mount and its installation on view. Details that injected plastic cannot manage to this extent — piping, small brackets, the breakdown of the block — are cast directly into the parts here.
The Bf 109G-10 was one of the late production versions of the German single-engine fighter, powered by a twelve-cylinder inverted V engine of the Daimler-Benz 605 series in its late form. The U4 suffix in the designation refers to a factory conversion kit that changed part of the equipment of the machine; the exact extent of the conversion differed between individual production batches. Outwardly, the late version is recognized above all by the revised cowlings over the upper part of the nose and by a different size of vertical tail.
First wash the parts in warm water with a drop of dish soap so that no mold release agent is left on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine-toothed saw and sand the surfaces wet with respiratory protection. It is bonded with super glue, as plastic cement will not join this material. Assemble and paint the engine separately before you close the fuselage, and dry-fit it first to see whether the cowlings really will seat on the model — without that check it easily happens that the finished engine then keeps the cowling from closing. For readable detail, use a dark wash and dry-brush the edges with a metal shade.
The package holds only the accessory parts. The model, glue and paints are not part of it. It is a technical accessory to a historical aircraft subject.
