Bf 110 D-2 with the Spanner device 1:48 from AML: a resin conversion set to the night fighter form.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin conversion set in 1:48 scale that adds the Spanner-Anlage device to a model of the German heavy fighter Messerschmitt Bf 110 D-2. It is not a kit of the aircraft: the set replaces and supplements parts on a model you already own, so without one you cannot use it.
The Spanner-Anlage was a German device for night combat that worked with infrared radiation. It was meant to make it possible to spot an opponent by the heat coming from his engines, which at a time when airborne radars were only just coming into being looked like a promising path. In practice, however, the range and the resolution proved not to be enough, and the device was given up in favor of radar equipment. The Bf 110 was a twin-engine heavy fighter with a pair of engines on the wing and the crew in a single glazed cabin, and it was among the first machines on which the night equipment was tried out.
Wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with dish soap so that the residue of the mold release agent disappears. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the mating surfaces; sand with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). A conversion usually also means removing part of the original plastic, so offer the parts up dry first and lay out the sequence of work. Apply a primer before painting.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted and it is an accessory, not a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
