About product

The Me 262 A-2a/U2 cockpit in 1:48 scale

Red Fox Studio prints the instrument panel and the cockpit details in color and with a 3D texture directly onto decal paper. The set is not glued on like a resin part — it is applied by soaking and positioning, just like any other decal, and it replaces the smooth plastic panel from the kit. The set is intended for Hobby Boss kits.

What makes this cockpit special

The A-2a/U2 version is a bomber conversion with a glazed nose for a second crew member lying prone. The cockpit therefore stops being a single-seat affair: to the pilot's station with its usual panel is added a station in the nose, which has a completely different logic and different instruments. The pilot's station itself remains marked by the early jet era — purely analog dials, clearly grouped engine instruments for two power units and a massive canopy frame that markedly divides both the view out and the view in. The machine was built in only a few examples, so accessories for this cockpit are rarely made.

Why not photo-etched parts and why not a brush

A photo-etched part is thin and accurate, but the modeler has to deal with the color and the legibility of the scales. A decal supplied with a kit tends to be only a flat print without structure. Hand painting individual gauges in 1:48 takes hours and the result tends to be uneven. A color print with a three-dimensional texture gives both at once. Work on a smooth, matte-painted and degreased base, settle it with a decal softener and let it dry out thoroughly before closing the cockpit.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of early jet equipment in 1:48 scale
  • Modelers who want a cockpit without photo-etched parts and without painting scales
  • Those who build less usual variants and want to tell them apart inside too
  • More experienced decal users — the print has to be settled at the first attempt

This is a cockpit accessory, not a kit. The kit, paints, decal softener and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is a bomber conversion with a glazed nose for a second crew member lying prone. Besides the pilot's station there is therefore a forward station with different equipment.

No. It is a print on decal paper: soak it in warm water, slide it into place, settle it with a decal softener and let it dry out. Glue would damage the print.

In most cases yes. The print carries both the color and a three-dimensional structure, so painting the scales is done away with. The relief is, however, lower than on a layered photo-etched part.

Yes. The base should be smooth, matte and degreased, otherwise silvering will appear under the print.

It is intended for Hobby Boss kits.
