An injection-molded plastic kit of the He 162B-1 in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker AZ model. The Volksjäger 46 series covers project variants that never came into being: they stayed at the design stage of the end of the Second World War and no such machine was built or ever took off. The model is therefore a reconstruction of an unrealized project rather than of a historical aircraft, and the markings on the decals are hypothetical.
The production version of the He 162 was a small single-engine jet aircraft of mixed construction, with the engine mounted on the back of the fuselage and a twin vertical tail. The design designated as the B series was to be its development continuation: it reckoned with a lengthened fuselage, a larger fuel load and thus greater range, with a modified wing and with more powerful propulsion. It never reached production, though, and stayed at drawings and studies. The suffix 46 in the name of the series refers to a hypothetical setting in the year 1946, that is, to the time when such machines would theoretically have appeared had development continued.
Dry-fit the parts, which always pays off with short-run molds. The twin vertical tail calls for careful seating, so that both surfaces stand symmetrically: let the glue go off and keep checking the model from behind. Finish the cockpit before closing the fuselage. Because this is a hypothetical machine, you have a freer hand in choosing shades and grading the wear than with a historical subject, but keep to the logic of late factory production, that is, simple schemes and an imperfect surface.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
