Pre-colored 3D decals for the cockpit of the Mi-24D 1:48

An add-on for a plastic model, not a kit. The decals are printed on decal paper and carry color as well as raised relief, so once applied the instrument panels look finished without painting and without dry brushing.

The cockpit of the Mi-24D

The Mi-24 combines an attack helicopter with a compartment for carrying troops, which the layout of the forward section reflects. The D version has two separate, stepped cockpits in tandem: the operator at the front and the pilot behind him, each under his own canopy and separated by a bulkhead. The two stations have differently equipped panels, so the interior is not symmetrical and takes a good deal of work to paint by hand. Later configurations of the Hind also differ in instrumentation, so the sets for the individual versions are not interchangeable.

Preparation and gluing

• True the molded dials on the plastic; a decal needs a smooth surface.
• Spray the parts with dark paint and polish them with gloss varnish, as the element has no adhesive layer of its own.
• Soak briefly and slide the decal onto a damp surface.
• Press the water out from the middle toward the edges; no air may stay under the relief.
• No decal softener or setter; they will attack the printed resin.

The full or the smaller set

This item is the full version. A smaller variant of the same set exists separately, but it covers the interior to a narrower extent. If you build the model with the canopies open and want the cockpit to stand up to close inspection, reach for the full version. On a closed model the difference is lost.
