Three-dimensional decals for the cockpit of the Mi-8MT transport helicopter in 1:48 scale, prepared for the Trumpeter kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mi-8 is among the most widespread rotary-wing machines in history. The rendition with a pair of more powerful engines and a reworked gearbox came about so that the machine could cope with a hot climate and with high-lying landing areas, where the original version lost its payload. In the export rendition the same type was sold under a different number and serves with dozens of operators to this day, in transport, medical and armed forms. The cockpit is glazed over a large area, so with a model on display far more of it is visible than on a fighter.
A helicopter instrument panel is wide and carries two sets of instruments side by side, and to that are added the overhead panel and the center console between the seats. Painting this with a brush means long hours. The set offers printed pieces with height instead: the bezels of the dials, the levers and the circuit breakers stand above the surface and have their coloring and lettering finished.
Clean the surfaces of grease, release the pieces in lukewarm water and seat them with a soft brush without pressure. Take the moisture off with an absorbent cloth and leave the whole to set undisturbed. A matte varnish will unify the sheen at the end. The helicopter itself and its glazing are not included in the package.
A rotary-wing machine tends to be seen close up and its large windows offer a view from several sides at once. It therefore pays to check the seating of the pieces from behind and through the glazing as well, while they are still damp and can be moved.
