Pre-cut masks for the cockpit glazing of the MiG-15 fighter in 1:48 scale. They cover the frames from the outer and the inner side and are cut for the plastic kit by Trumpeter.
Responsibility details are not available.
The prototype of this Soviet jet fighter flew at the very end of 1947 and the production machines were then built in tens of thousands not only at home but under license in Czechoslovakia and in Poland. The barrel-shaped fuselage hid a centrifugal-flow engine derived from the British Nene, the wing had a pronounced sweep and the rate of climb of the machine was beyond what the crews of American bombers over Korea expected. The armament consisted of one 37 mm cannon completed by a pair of 23 mm weapons, housed under the cockpit floor on a lowering tray. The cabin was pressurized and the pilot left it by jettisoning the canopy, which is a detail recognized on a finished model precisely by the division of the frames.
The sliding canopy has only a few frames, but they run over a markedly rounded surface and they are narrow. Tape cut by hand with a knife readily wanders on such a shape and an uneven frame boundary shows at first glance after spraying. The parts from this set fit their places, hold the curvature and, once the paint has dried, come off without a deposit of adhesive being left on the clear part.
Before applying, it is enough to degrease the glazing and let it dry completely. On another molding of the same type, differences in the width of the frames have to be reckoned with. It pays to protect the finished glazing to the end of the build so that dust from sanding filler does not settle on it.
