The MiG-15 was a single-engined swept-wing jet fighter that became one of the most widespread machines of its generation. The MiG-15bis version received a more powerful engine. In Poland the type was built under license as the Lim-1, derived from the MiG-15, and the Lim-2, corresponding to the bis version. Outwardly the machines are close to each other, so it is the decals that decide which particular aircraft ends up on the shelf.
Fighters of this generation are often built without camouflage, with a surface imitating polished duralumin, and that places higher demands on preparation than an ordinary matte finish. A metallic shade forgives nothing: every sanding scratch and every fingerprint shows through it. So work from smoothly sanded and degreased plastic through a filler primer to the metal finish itself, which should be left to dry thoroughly. Metallic paints tend to be delicate against mechanical abrasion, so they are locked in before the decals with a thin layer of gloss clear varnish; that also creates the smooth surface on which a decal will not silver. Apply the varnish in light layers, so the sheen of the metal is not flooded and dulled. Only onto this layer do the decals, the softener and finally the unifying overcoat go.
