The Eduard 1:48 MiG-17F mask set is an aid for painting a model of the MiG-17F jet aircraft in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A mask set from the Czech maker Eduard for a model of the single-engine MiG-17F jet aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is not a part of the model and not a decal but shaped masks for painting. They are taken off the model once it has been sprayed.
A number of machines of this type are presented in a natural metal finish, and that is exactly where masking decides. Metal shades are applied in a thin coat over a smooth base, and any unevenness underneath will stand out. Adhesive residue from tape or a ragged edge left by cutting by hand shows more under a metallic paint than under a flat camouflage color. A shaped mask holds a straight edge and leaves no fibers behind when it comes off.
A metal coat is sprayed only onto a smoothly sanded and degreased surface. So the glazing is masked first, then the primer is sprayed, then the metal coat, and the mask comes off as soon as possible after it has set. Before spraying, go over the model against the light and find the gaps where paint could creep in; with metal shades every such mark will show. Because metallic paints are harder to overspray and take further masking badly, plan the order of the shades in advance: first the areas that will be covered over later, and the glossy metal panels last.
The package contains masks for painting. Paints, varnish and the model are not part of it.
