A set of colored relief 3D decals from Quinta Studio for a detailed rendering of the cockpit of the MiG-21PF fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not a model or a kit - these are thin, three-dimensionally shaped and color-printed decals carried on decal paper, which replace or complete the instrument panel, the side panels, the levers and other details of the pilot's compartment. They transfer fine relief instruments, dials and lettering onto the kit parts without laborious painting. The set is intended for MiG-21 kits in 1:48 scale; the name gives the kit from Eduard as the target kit.

The real subject

The MiG-21PF was a second-generation interceptor of this famous family, with a delta wing and a circular nose intake with a shock cone. Compared with the early day versions it received a more powerful radar in a reworked cone, a stronger engine and was conceived as a missile-armed interceptor without gun armament. It was one of the most widespread supersonic combat aircraft of the Cold War.

Use and tips

• Clean and degrease the cockpit parts and polish them with a gloss clear coat - the elements have no adhesive layer and hold on the gloss, so a matte surface is a mistake.
• Cut the elements out with a sharp knife at the edge of the relief, soak them in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slide them off the backing paper into place.
• Follow the instruction sheet enclosed - the assignment to the parts is designed for that particular kit.
• Do not use a decal softener or a decal setter, as they attack the printed resin and will ruin the element; pressure with a cotton swab and a drop of super glue help in the recesses.
