This is NOT an airplane model but a set of die-cut self-adhesive masks from New Ware in 1:48 scale. The masks are cut from kabuki tape (Japanese washi paper with an adhesive layer) and serve for precise masking when painting a plastic kit of the MiG-31 BM/BSM interceptor. The parts are pre-cut to fit a particular model, so cutting the frames out with a knife is not needed.
The MiG-31 in its modernized BM and BSM versions is a two-seat supersonic long-range interceptor. The modernization brought a new radar with a markedly greater range, a digitized cockpit and the ability to track and engage several targets at once. The aircraft is intended for the defense of a vast airspace and for destroying targets at long range.
The EXPERT level is one of the most complete variants. Besides masking the outside of the glazed cockpit it usually includes masks for the inner side of the glazing, colored edging for the frames (an imitation of the sealing), masks for the position and landing lights and masks for the wheel hubs. It therefore makes it possible to mask the canopy from both sides and with a different color for the frames. The masks are stuck onto the clear parts so that they follow the curvature, and after spraying with an airbrush they are removed gently without leaving any adhesive.
An accessory masking set, not a standalone model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
