Academy Da Vinci Helicopter is a mechanical kit of the aerial screw from Leonardo da Vinci's drawing, whose rotor really does turn once it is built.
Responsibility details are not available.
A mechanical model from the Da Vinci Machines series by Academy that reproduces Leonardo da Vinci's famous design for the aerial screw. This is not an aircraft model in the ordinary sense but an educational working kit with gear drives: once it is built, the rotor part can be turned by hand and you can watch how the inventor's mechanism was meant to work. The parts are made to look like a period wooden structure.
The aerial screw is one of Leonardo's best-known sketches from the end of the 15th century and is often called one of the conceptual forerunners of the helicopter. The helical surface was to spin and bite into the air much as a screw bites into a material. It was not capable of flight in physical terms, but as an illustration of Renaissance engineering thinking it remains a rewarding subject.
The model is put together from plastic parts. We recommend cleaning up the sprue nubs and filling the mold parting lines, paying attention to the gear train so that the drives turn freely, and possibly finishing the surface in a wooden look with shades of brown and a glaze or drybrushing. For gluing, choose liquid modeling cement for plastic.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
