The R-60 training missile in 1:48 scale — a resin replica of the training version of the light Soviet air-to-air missile, an authentic detail of training operations for models of MiGs, from Plus Model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from the Czech manufacturer Plus Model contains a resin replica of the training version of the Soviet R-60 air-to-air missile in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of an aircraft; it is a weapons accessory capturing the munitions that units flew with in training far more often than with live missiles.
The combat R-60 (AA-8 Aphid in the NATO reporting system) was a light, agile short-range missile with infrared homing, carried by a whole range of Soviet types from the MiG-21 through the MiG-23 and MiG-29 to the Su-17 and Su-25. Training versions of missiles kept the shape, dimensions and interfaces of a live missile, but served to practice loading, handling and work with the weapons system. They were set apart from combat rounds by striking training markings, and it is exactly this everyday working detail that adds credibility to a model.
Wash the small casting free of the mold release agent and cut the casting blocks off with feeling, which the fragile control surfaces will appreciate. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue. When painting, work from period photographs of the particular unit; the contrasting markings of training munitions are a rewarding accent of color that enlivens the otherwise single-color underside of an aircraft. A fine wash will bring the parting lines out.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
