Omask 1:48 - plugs for the wheel bays of a model of the Japanese jet machine Nakajima Kikka. They protect the cavities against overspray during painting. It fits the Fine Molds kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
Shaped inserts that are pushed into the wheel bays of a model before painting. The cavity thus stays clean and no mist from the airbrush gets into it, even when you are spraying the underside of the airframe from close up and at a sharp angle. This does away with laboriously stuffing the bays with paper or wet cotton wool, which moreover works loose during handling.
The product is meant for the Fine Molds kit. That is bought separately.
The interior of the bays and the inside of the doors are usually given a different shade from the outer surfaces on aircraft, and they tend to be details that everyone who picks a model up looks at. A single careless breath of masking color over the edge will dirty the bay, and putting it right then means taking things apart or brushwork in a place that can barely be reached. The insert deals with the situation in advance.
The Kikka was the first Japanese aircraft with jet propulsion that actually got into the air. It came about in the very close of the Second World War at the Nakajima factory as a light and easily made machine, and the Japanese managed to design the pair of Ne-20 engines on their own, even with very fragmentary material about foreign development. Only the prototypes got as far as flight; series production never began.
The contents are solely a masking aid; plastic parts and chemicals do not belong with it.
