Mustang Mk.III is the British designation for the version that in the US Air Force bore the designations P-51B and P-51C. The fuselage still has the spine behind the cockpit, that is not the teardrop canopy of the later machines, and the view to the rear is therefore limited. That is precisely why the bulged sliding canopy known as the Malcolm hood often appeared with British squadrons. The cockpit is single-seat and on a model in 1:48 scale more of it is visible with the canopy open than appears at first glance.
This is a decal set. It adds to the model the elements that are applied to a finished surface, not parts that would be glued on like plastic components. What exactly the set covers and in what order the elements are applied is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The sheet is not immersed in water. With a damp sponge and a drop of dish soap, wet only the backing paper under the element, then lift it off with tweezers and seat it in place; it is fixed with PVA glue (white glue). The maker does not recommend super glue, and decal softener does not belong here, because it attacks the printed layer. Leave the surface under the element smooth, dry and degreased; on rough matte paint the element will not stick over its whole area and the edge will shine. Finish the interior before you glue the fuselage halves together, and put the cockpit canopy on only at the very end.
For modelers who are building a Mustang with an open cockpit and want legible instruments and fine detail in it without laborious painting. Unless stated otherwise, this is a separate accessory set and the kit, paints and glue are supplied separately.
